To make excessive speed and or inappropriate speed as anti-social as "drink driving". This is one of the comments from the Bedfordshire & Luton Casualty Reduction Partnership Publicity campaign found on searching information on the Speed Camera that flashed right in my eyes through Sandy, Beds on Tuesday evening.

I was travelling from Basingstoke up to Peterborough at the time and on approaching Sandy I slowed up to suit the conditions (Heavy rain, dual carriageway with residential properties close to the road 55mph). I then move to the outside lane and accelerate to approx 72mph to overtake two lorries. I am not aware of the change from NSL to 60mph and am shown the reality when passing the second lorry a huge light blinds me from the front!! Yes pssing rain and no vision at 72. I immediately slow to around 45 mph and try to figure everything. I was led to believe that the forward facing cameras are infrared and do not flash. When I returned yesterday the cameras had Truvelo stamped on the post. I cannot find any information apart from the usual infrared (no flash) type. I have to wait to see my unfortunate outcome. Anyone else been flashed and blinded!!

Hi M3EVO. I live about 2 miles from that site and the road has only recently been reduced from 70 to 60. As I know the cameras are there I always set about 60 to 65 on my cruise control. Recently, and like you at night, I was in the left hand lane there when a Peugeot 406 overtook me just as we reached the camera. As you say, it is a very bright light when you are not expecting it!. I think the Pug got done as he was doing just over 70 I guess. It's a good cash collection road and just a bit further on there is another bi-directional Truvelo which got my daughter in the Sandy 50 limit a year or so ago. In addition to the 4 cameras on that road, they also use Talivans with laser. One day they nearly got me as I was going North. I saw a Talivan on the Southbound side, slowed for the fixed cameras and, just after the roundabout on the Northbound side was another Talivan. I was doing about 60, but was opvertaking a large truck and I don't think he saw me in time before I hit the brakes and the car behind nearly ran into the back of me. A fine contribution to road safety!!
Email a complaint to the Beds Police. The guy who runs the Scameras is Clive Milton and his email is:
clive.milton@bedfordshire.pnn.police.uk
I have really wound him up several times.

I've heard from a Beds special constable that often talivans operate around these cameras to catch people that speed up between them.
