Hi all
Having just read about the sva replacement test next year I'm pulling out all the stops to get my car tested this year.
As you can see from my website this aint no ordinary build
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/v8covin/

I've read the sva manual circa 2004 and am having difficulty getting my head round a few things, for example E marking.
Take door mirrors, what is and is not permitted ? I have never noticed an e mark on production car mirrors so are these all inellgible ? Are we talking the glass or the housing ?
I was hoping to use some carbon fibre motor bike mirrors but having looked at a Honda built last year they have no markings on them.
I have some original porsche ones and these have no e marks either

Could someone please clarify the situation for me ?

cheers
Daz

My car certainly didn't have e-marked wing mirrors, which means either it's not important, or it was missed in SVA.

You do need to have a mirror large enough to take their special template they use (or, in my case, orientate the mirrors so they can).

Agreed

Mirrors must have rounder edges of 2.5mm radius IIRC and encapsulate the glass
The glass must accomodate a template 70mmx40mm IIRC

There is a company called Car Builder solutions in Kent who have SVA compliant stuff in their catalogue.

For SVA there is also a vision test to check the field of view from the drivers seat.
Once you have your MAC you could change the mirrors for more suitable ones whistle

It's a bit more complicated than that.

The shape is something like:

|
|
|
|__________|

Where the left edge is 70mm, bottom edge also 70mm, and the right edge 40mm. The whole template must reside in the mirror when level. It took me a while to realise the shape...

I've got a picture of this in the office; if I remember, I'll post it.

Edited to make the bottom bit a bit longer, as the font was completely different...

Could that invalidate your insurance?

The dark lines show the template. The grey background is a mirror that would pass SVA, because the template fits in the shape.

I am also getting my build close to the SVA and I read with interest the comments on mirrors, but if you buy your mirrors from someone like Car Builder Solutions and it states in the catalogue "SVA compliant" is it reasonable to assume that are?

I bought some switches off CBS after they told me they were ok for sva.
When I got them they had sharp edges and would clearly not pass sva. When I rang them they said it would depend where I mounted them .
It's fair to say don't take everything you are told as gospel and do plenty of research + ask people in the know
