Both these are now due.
Me and my 1997 S1 are based in NW surrey.
Any suggestions on where to get MOT done safely and who would be a good bet for insurance?
My current renewal is 446 with LV. Adrian Flux have improved that by a considerable margin. Who else should I contact?

thanks

I was quite impressed with Admiral insurance when I got did mine - got mulitcar discount.

For service/MOT - Bell and Colvill (lotus dealers in West Horsley), Steve Williams (independent lotus specialist in Maidenhead), Lakeside Engineering (lotus specialists just outside woking), Plans Motorsport (sports car specialists, at Dunsfold airfield), Specialise Paintwork in reading, Sinclaires in Romford (worth travelling to imo), Fibreglass services in sussex (i think).

Give lipscombe a try. They have set rate service deals which are bordering on independent rates & do the MOT onsite. Very good service.

That's the ultimate in personalising your car- giving it a hairstyle (albeit a slightly outdated one!!)

Update:
Renewal from LV = 460 approx
Telephone quote from Adrian Flux 360 approx

via Moneysupermarket.com
LV refused to quote because of too many convictions (1 only! and they are my current insurer!)
More Th>n 260 approx

So far 460 -> 360 -> 260
This is progressing in the right direction

Does anyone have experience of More Th>n ??????

Admiral are good but at £400 odd that's pretty cheap already. Does anyone know if MOTs can be done anywhere? I know that the service should be a dealer/specialist but isn't the MOT just straight forward checks? Reason is I have to get my MOT done in a hurry and was thinking of taking it to Kwikfit as it's only for the MOT. Is this a bad idea? Thanks

I know this has been seen before, but it is a warning to be careful.

I am taking mine to a local garage that has MOT'd all my cars for the last few years. However, I have talked to them up front and will stay very close so I can shout at them if necessary.

It is the jacking points and weight distribution that seem to be the main hazards

Only that they are indeed the absolute cheapest....I pay 180 quid!

There were issues with them cancelling policies as they had not updated the internet site....something about they didn't like S2s, only S1s. Should all be sorted now, so if it goes through, all is swell.

They are part of the Sun and Alliance group, so backed by a big money insurer.

Have you checked the excess though? 600 pounds, methinks. Again, this is fine really as any claim below 1,000-2000 is not cost effective to claim for anyhow.

I'd say go for it - quite a bit of petrol money saved. At today's prices, 200 quid should get you across London....
