Has anyone DMS'd an M3 Evo? They reckon on +28bhp and +22ft/lb, but I'm wondering what it will do to driveability and reliability - they mention that it puts more stress on the Vanos unit...

Yeah, I know. Ignore the numbers, I'm more interested to know what it would do to driveability - does it produce power earlier, increase torque, improve consumption etc? DMS have a good rep for chipping diesels, so out of the companies out there I'd expect them to have a good idea of what they're doing, although I doubt a 9% power increase from a chip alone.

I've had DMS re-map my 535d Sport, E60 M5 & B7 RS4 & i've yet to hear of a customer that's not 100% happy. If they claim 28BHP then that's pretty much what they'll get.

My E60 M5 got a 40BHP gain, so about the same %age you're looking at.

You will find cheaper tuners, but as with everything in life, you pays your money.

No, you won't.. because its just not possible on an M3 evo through just a remap. A proper remap on the dyno, and only through reprofiling the vanos curve will get you 15bhp tops. More usually 10bhp.

I spoke to quite a few very good independents about the benefits of remaps on my 46 M3 (wanted it de-limited as well). The general opinion was that although it may increase response in the rev range the BHP gain would be minimal - they talked about an average of between 8 - 12 BHP as the engine is so highly tuned anyway.

I had a re-map done recently, albeit on a S54 3.2 motor, and the dyno read out showed an increase of 21 bhp. Now, the rev limit was also raised by 250 rpm and sure, the car does feel quicker, but studying the graph, the extra power is most prevalent at 7K rpm plus and this is not somewhere that any of us spend an awful lot of time. The torque increase/spread is what we should be concentrating on as this is the usable everyday advantage of having the ECU remapped by a competent tuner and in layman's terms is what is generally outlined as 'increasing response in the rev range' yes
