I have a couple of new products coming out that need testing. I have fitted them to my car but as it is slightly modified I would like to fit them to another car to make sure there are no problems.

The first is a stronger bonnet stay. Uses 10mm solid ally instead of the 8mm tubing that does have a habit of bending.

The second is a unit that plugs between the fans and their respective feeds and changes their operation. Instead of a single fan coming on for the first stage, both fans come on at half speed. At the second stage, both fans come on at full speed. The advantage with the half speed is that both fans draw air through the rad. With a single fan on, air is also sucked through the other fan from the engine bay and effectively re-circulates and thus reduces the cooling. The half speed fans are more effective and so far the full speed fan rarely come on in my car. It also means that the start up currents are reduced and there is less likelihood of blowing fuses. It uses the same connectors as the originals so it is very much plug and play. It can even be disconnected and the original system restored if needed.

I would like to try these out on a SP6 and a AJP Cerbie so if there are two owners out there that would like to test these products for me (preferably near Milton Keynes) please email me.

I have a 4.5 smile

However at this time of year you are going to be hard pressed to test a fan system as the cars rarely get up to temperature in this weather.

In summer my car is relying on the fans to keep the temp stable in any condition below 30mph. In winter the temp sits betwen 85-90, and usually bang on the 85 thermostat.

I know it helps the cooling as I have had similar systems on my cars for years. idling at a slightly higher speed is enough to get the fans to come on and chcek that they do what they are supposed to do. What I need to do is test the fitting instructions and make the installation as idiot proof as possible.

All I need is a SP6 owner...

On mine the stay needs a bend in it in order to clip flat against the bonnet when it is shut. I carefully straighetned my stay only to find it wouldn't fit. Is this accounted for in your new one?

You do, of course have one more problem. Made worse whether you are using some clever pulse width electrogiz, or just a resistor.

That is that there are very few Cerbs actually maintaining a charge at 8-900 rpm. The alternator setup on the cerb is marginal at 1000 and positively in negative balance at 800-900. So if you are sucking more power than standard at tickover you may be in trouble.

With resistors you are effectively sucking full power from the fans whether they are running fast or slow, so it would be like constant full power fan drain, whereas the original setup would not?

Let me know how to get it touch and we can talk about the details.

Thanks

Let's try again, darn kompooter

Resistor would not draw the same power as for fans running normal speed. P=(IxI)R etc.. Battery internal resistance, alternator impedance, losses aside you can halve the speed by halving the current.

Anyway, S6 here is no nearer offers appear.

The fan unit doesn't take any more power than the standard set up.

The bonnet stay is straight as is the originals fitted by TVR. However, it may be possible to adjust the pivots so that a bend is not needed. Alternatively I can modify one if needed.

Coey - YHM.

Buffoon - you are in the SP6 slot unless I find someone closer.

Uhm ... or how about just using a second fan?
