VW MK2 Problem

I need help becuse i have no power to the car when i drive it and it cuts out and doesnt start again. I Dont know what it could be. could you please tell me what you think the problem is.

it is a carb but i have no noises coming from the engine

Had a similar problem on my sons Mk2 GTi, it turned out to be the woodruff key on the bottom pulley had sheared, hence putting the timing way out.

Timing or carb could be shot.
Can you smell the petrol
