bugeye impreza sti type uk
Discussion
Guys,
posted up a couple of weeks ago about a rather tasty wrx id seen. A little bit of investigation and it seems that an sti can be had for not much more. For example, ive seen a nice 60k miler up for £9k.
Ive taken a couple of trips to scoobynet but i just find it such a laborious place to navigate! Basically, "i knowa nothing" about scoobs....
My budget looks like its taking me in the direction of the bugeyes rather than blobs, which is fine. So, what im after is some pointers as to what i need to be looking for.
General consencus says that they are relatively bulletproof what with them being jap. Is this generally the case (have a friend who had a classic sti and he spent a fortune on maintaining it- is this a one off?). What service intervals and costs are we looking at? Cambelts at 50-60k, right??
Its going to be my daily drive so we're looking at dull motorway journeys (which should help on the mpg front? has done for my other cars- im getting 26mpg out of my modded ST (250-300 miles to £45-50 of fuel). Im going to be back on track at some point this year too so what are stuff like brakes going for? set of ferodos/mintex for £80 a fair assumption? Any complaints when it comes to commuting in a scoob? I know its not its natural environment, but needs must!
A car which is on 60k (and assuming the belt has been done) and which I plan on putting 20k on a year- anybody know what im likely to expect, costs wise, over a 2 year period? (assuming im talking normal servicing and consumables)
In a nutshell, for my budget (7-9k) im after something which will give me the practicality and commutability of my ST, but the thrill and dynamic ability to keep me entertained of a weekend. Oh, and it needs enough poke to make sure those pesky diesel repmobiles dont bug me on the mway!
Thanks in advance

IMHO if you are going to be doing 20K miles a year buy a normally aspirated scooby or Forester if you really want one but you won;t get the performance.
I love my scoob but that much mileage a year would cost a fortune in fuel as they love a drink, and you are talking 2 full services a year with an oil change in between each servce just to be nice to your scoob because you love it. Don't forget insurance (Grp 19/20) and £205 per year excise duty. All that mileage is going to devalue your scoob bigtime. Most of the peeps i know do less than 12K miles a year. I probably do about that in mine as i run a business but many have only done 6K - 8K a year.
You would be better off with a FocusST, Diesel Audi/BMW/VW, Golf 2L GTi, Mundano ST Ashtray VXR etc... or just get a decent diesel repmobile and put yer foot down :thumb:
