Hi All,

Just wondered if you could share your experience with me regarding a possible purchase.

My sister is in the market for a car and is interested in an A3, preferably either the 1.8 SE or Sport, Manual.

She just lost her company car allowance as she has moved back to the UK from overseas so is really just looking for a car that's going to be pretty reliable and will get her from A to B. She has had three Audis in her company car scheme so wants to stay with the marque if possible.

She's looking to spend no more than £5.5k which I think would put her in the market for a 2000/2001 1.8 with reasonable mileage.

I'll be buying on her behalf so is there anything I should be looking for? In particular in terms of servicing, recalls, parts that should have been replaced at a certain mileage or particular weaknesses with this car?

Pretty sure there was a facelift in '01 as well?

Need to get her the right one or life won't be worth living!

Thanks for all the help.

I got myself a 2000 A3 1.8T Sport last may for just under 7K.

40k miles, full leather, climate control, fully loaded...BOSE stereo multichanger etc, full Audi service history and fantastic condition...not a mark on it. Fantastic car, quick enough, comfy, well built and drives well.

I hunted for a while until I found the right one and I found that there are a lot of high milers out there which are in shabby condition for the money thats being asked for them. I'd suggest look at as many as you can and dont go for anything that looks like its had a hard life. FSH is vital, make sure the cam belts been done as well as the water pump. If you go for a Turbo make sure you dont get one thats been 'modded'.

Good luck with it, look at as many as you can, take them out for a spin and see what you think. Walk away from the cr&p and hold out for a good one at the price you want to pay.

Hope this helps a bit!.
