Just sorting through the car today getting ready for lemans (early i know) got mine and my dads passports, put them in the glove box and then thought "hmmmmmm better check the date" lucky because they go out of date in may so i was well pleased that i did.
£72 for a new passport, what a rip off!
Have to get some pictures tommorow and then send it away, and be £72 lighter, i just can't believe it, infact im going to say it again £72!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway lads (and lasses) check your passports and make sure you get them done.

The Missus got stung for it a few weeks back. However the good news was that it was back within a week and they added the unexpired time from the previous one.

got that Saturday.Back on topic Stock Car Mike had to go home to get his passport a few years back, silly sod didn't think that you needed them anymore! Mind you he really was a complete anus on that trip, what with his continual fussiness, oh and smashing up two of the three blokes cars.
Last year I went to Le Mans with my son, as is generally the case. The night before we set off he arrived at my house with a passport that expired in February 2007! So, we needed to decide
(a) whether to quit the trip at great expense or
(b) go for it reckoning we could get into France via Le Shuttle unchecked, meaning we'd probably have a problem getting back into the UK.
So we went for it and got into France no probs and had a great time at Le Mans despite the weather. Then, on arrival back at Le Shuttle at Calais the UK immigration person noticed the expired passport, checked up on the countries my son had visited in the past year, and then let him through with the message "Guess what your first action will be when you get back into the UK-get a new passport."
It's doable but it does rely on there being no checks at Le Shuttle at Ashford regarding leaving the UK and going into France. Had we been stopped at that stage I suspect our trip would have been over.

mine had expired last year in august, i've just last week applied and spent the £4 on some photos to find they we're not up to standards so spent another £4 on some more, spent £7 on the postoffice's 'check and send' service only to be told the photos we're wrong and that where i started to write out the form in blue ink and went over it in black that the scanner will pick that up, took some more photos at another £4 and re-wrote out another passport form, took it back to the post office and paid the nice lady (genuinely nice lady) £72 and told ' yep, that'll go through'.
you add it up cos i can't be bothered, at least i haven't gota do it for another 10 years!
all i have to do now is book the ferry and i'm there!
and after all the hassle and expense.............
i cannot wait for me first EVER le-mans experience, Le-mans 2008!

Not true...we (UK) didn't sign up to one of the agreements - Schengen (sp)I think which is why we get to keep borders. In mainland Europe they are required to have some form of official ID, my German relatives carry and use their ID cards rather than their (Engligh) passports. Last year a guy on our fishing trip passport ran out the year before ! They let him in and out with no problem. (Despite the fact we did our best as passport control to make them keep him in France lol). Also your passport only has to be valid for the time you intend to spend in an EU country, outside the EU its usually 6 months pass the date you return.

However since you are a Brit most Euro plod will ask for passport anyway becuase they know UK is outside Schengen so best carry it anyway.
Edit: Not sure how heavily the 6 month rule is enforced in Europe. My passport runs out at the end of June and I've been travelling on it every week this year without a problem. Will have a new one for the race though. I think 6 month rule becomes an issue if you want to go the the USA or somewhere you need a visa.
