Service Prices - Due my first service on the VXR. Anyone had this done at Vauxhalls and if so which Vauxhalls and what price did you pay? Just been quoted £259 at Warrington for basically an oil and filter change plus a 'comprehensive check' of the vehicle?

Paid £370 for a three year service with an MOT last August at Phoenix Wimbledon. Pretty sure they re-gassed the A/C as well. Forget what I paid year before, but I'm sure it wasn't a huge amount. All relative I suppose, the Jeep dealership for my old Wrangler used to book their holidays when they saw me coming...chuckle

£200 for a type 1 service, £360 for a type 2 is about right.

It's a complete rip off, but not unique to Vauxhall - basically a hidden cost of warranty.

Once outside warranty, my (BMW) experience is that the specialists are much cheaper. Hopefully the same will apply with the 'ro.

Lookers Warrington are new to Monaros, but they did(eventually) fix mine when it died an sudden ECU death late last year. Their service was initially appalling until I went ready for a big shoutup, whereupon they were so disarmingly polite, helpful and professional that I left happy! They provided a courtesy car on a Sat pm at their own risk (Vauxhall not at work to ok the warranty claim) and then phoned my wife every day for a week to ask her to bring it back [Corsa] "so we can give you something more befitting a Monaro owner". She refused, on the basis she'd just filled it with fuel! (Me, I'd have gone for the VXR8 demo car...).

I get mine serviced at Monkfish for much fairer prices. See their website. Not a problem when under warranty. Just need a Vx dealer for actual warranty work.

Just got mine done at Greens, 150 for the cheap service, the dear one would have been 330 I think, but I put a set of plugs in myself (18 quid each from vauxhall!)

I did notice that i've always been charged for a new sump screw, is this normal? According to the Holden CD it isn't a stretch bolt. Do the UK versions have a tricked up screw, or is it just another take on ?

Note sure about the screws, Ive never replaced them. Also you can get copper plugs the right type from halfords for £14 a set of 8. So £18 for one is nice. Though you probably bought iridium ones which are supposed to last for 100,000 miles before replacement...

That is right on the button, just had my first service done at Picador's and at that price I laughed all the way home. I traded a TVR Cerbera for the Monaro and a full service on that was £1,200. So 250 squid for a V8 runing on Mobil 1 having all the filers changed, plugs, brakes cleaned and checked etc is just so so cheap. Oh and I got a free loaner as well.

Paid 75 and 80 for 2 oil changes as Slaters, Colwyn Bay - but they didn't pay for the 2 miles of petrol they used for "flushing" or was it "warming", they didnt say. I think I might go to Warrington next time.

3 year service and MOT just completed.

£350ish, can't remember the exact amount but that included a couple of minor things too.

I'd say that was pretty reasonable :-)

Just had my first service done at Archie Moss @ Loughborough, £154.47, which I thought was very reasonable, had to sit and wait for 2 hours while it was done though but the time also included replacement of the wiring to one of the front foglights, which had deteriorated, I wasn't charged for this work but my bill did include £9.05p for the above mentioned screw plug?!

Got my 2nd service 2 weeks ago at Sherwoods in Darlington, £176. They had made a mistake when quoting me (they quoted the 1st service price), but stuck to their price, can't ask for fairer than that. I am waiting on them getting back to me on new disks too...

Just a thought, re. the hidden warranty charge, the dealer would trouser the scandalous service cost not Vauxhall.

I used to pay 600 quid for my old car and that was a 1.8 rover engine so that all sounds reasonable to me!

Read somewhere that main dealers have to honour the warranty if it is serviced by an indy garage, as long as the garage is VAT registered and uses OEM parts....
Anybody know if this is true. If so i'd do it personnally and borrow a friendly garages rubber stamp, for what is pretty much just an oil and filter change on these.

Saying that with a few of the things in a crate from Oz i'm not sure my warranty will hold up anyway biggrin

I know £260 isn't a huge amount compared to the TVR one, but what I don't get is how they can justify it for an oil and filter change when for my last car (Vectra SRi) it was £150 for the same thing? And why do some Vauxhall places charge more / less than others? Surely there should be a set price - It's like 'Yes sir, you drive a Monaro lets see how much we can rip you off for today'

I used Picador for first service which was normally £150 but they were doing a voucher discount deal and it came to £130 ish.

It was the same for 2nd service and £200 for third when I enquired at Greens last year before buying.

It is not for me to stand up for the dealers (there are plenty of them on here that can stand up for thenselves) There is fixed pricing, and in my case the garage told me the price before starting the work. I asked for a "FULL" service on my car as it had done several miles going up and down Alibaster dirt roads in Italy. Now I could have had just the oil change and filter, but do you know the price of Mobil 1 and the price of disposing of the old oil? wages, rent/ rates on commerical premises, the front line staff, the boys in the back room and so on, and then we insist on a car to take us home, or a free lift to the station, with collection as well.

While my car was in, 3 items were found to be faulty and were replaced under warranty, I was given at first a Corsa, and then a VXR8 to keep me sweet, and all that for £250 which included the VAT.

And now all you dealers, you owe me a drink!

I'm not having a go at all dealers but how can 1 Vauxhall dealer in Warrington charge £259 and 1 Vauxhall dealer 20 miles away in Rochdale charge £158 for the same job? Same vehicle check, same oil change, same filter, etc, etc. It should take the same amount of time for both garages to do the job, both VXR Vauxhall trained mechanics but why is one over £100 more expensive?

I don't know about the cost of disposing oil, but for Mobil 1 at Costco - £25 plus VAT for 4 litres, £20 for a K&N oil filter from Halfords. Total cost of parts max is 2 lots of oil £60, oil filter £20 so total is £80. How can they then justify nearly £200 on top of that to 'check the car'?

I'm not having a go but it just gripes that just because you've got a Monaro, people think your loaded and charge what ever price they want.

My local independent garage charges 60 squid for a 20,000 mile sevice plus approx 30 for synthetic oil and filter, plus VAT. Make and model is irrelevant, unlike some main dealers who charge a higher hourly rate for the newer models irrespective of the fact that the same bloke does the work in the same amount of time.
Regarding the disposal of the old oil, he finds it quite cost effective to just bung it down the drain.
Actually it all gets burnt in the space heater.
