Discussion
As a spin off from the 'Big Boot' thread (www.hsv.org.uk/topic.asp?t=507557&f=69&h=27) was wondering if the hood scoops are functional (ie anything to do with air induction)?
I read somewhere (can't remember where exactly) that they were part of the reason the later CV8 Ro's had 354hp instead of 338hp (along with a few other factors I think).
It would follow. I'm a Yank Muscle car owner and similar set-up on my 1971 Torino (called Ram-Air) could be functional (ie, the Hood scoop helped the engine breathe) or non-functional (just for the stylistic effect).
So what's the deal with Monaro's????

Origin for the nostrils was the old Pontiac GTO, all "Goats" had nostrils (bonnet scoops). So when Monaro was to be on sale in US of A as the Pontiac GTO it sprouted nostrils. These have removable ventilated rubber inserts which, to be honest don't have an active function as the intake for the air-filter is nowhere near the scoops. Possible slight cooling effect for the engine lump, already debated elsewhere on the forum. Negligeable.
I was talking the other day to an insurance call-centre (Bell Direct) in Canada where the operative told me they couldn't buy new GTO/Monaro! (he's looking forward to the Camaro). Anyone got a take on that?

"I was talking the other day to an insurance call-centre (Bell Direct) in Canada where the operative told me they couldn't buy new GTO/Monaro!"
He's not a friend but just happened to be on the other end of the phone when I was haggling insurance premiums. He asked me, for his own interest, if my Monaro was the Australian Holden make which led onto him saying Canadian Pontiac dealers couldn't supply brand new GTO's. Canucs have to cross the border to get their hands on them.

I thought the last Monaros were built in 05? Were they still making GTO versions later than that? He's not a friend but just happened to be on the other end of the phone when I was haggling insurance premiums.
