Hoping someone can help - have spent the last couple of weeks looking for a early S2 due to budget but every other car with decent history and mileage is silver or grey. My question is, was silver the most popular colour and hence why there’s so many more for sale or is it just less desirable and therefore cheaper than some of the other colours such as the ice blue?

I think silver suits Elises quite well, which may account for a lot of the popularity. One other very good reason is that it hides stonechips very nicely.

Certainly with the S1 silver cars were the most popular ordered. Not my favourite colour for either S1 or S2 model although I ended buying a silver car. With black wheels they look a whole lot better IMO.
Silver does hide stone chips very well: my car doesn't appear to have any until you get very close.
If you're after a specific colour you could have a long wait: with an older car I'd be more concerned about spec, condition and provenance.

There seem to be as many Lazer Blue cars, which I think is a lurvely colour...

S1: It's called New Aluminium for a reason -
the silver harmonizes well with all that beautiful bare aluminium.

I think it was to do with Silver very much being a colour in vogue at the turn of the millenium. It's also non-offensive in terms of the resale market, hence why cops cars are more often silver than white these days.

I had the same problem. Wanted a nice S2 111S but couldn't stand silver or gray which severely limited the choice.

I think Aubergine (purple) looks best but they are incredibly hard to find.

I agree with you and I also like midnight blue. But, as someone has already pointed out, darker colours show up stone chips.

The other thing is that IMHO some bright colours look a bit odd on the door tops inside the car - silver and black blend in with the interior.

Colour certainly is a VERY subjective thing, but personally I like my silver S2 111S a great deal more than say arctic/ice blue (which looks very effeminate) or the various stronger blues (which cheapen the car's looks I think).

Having said all that, my choice of car was generally based on the quality of the package - condition, price, dealer service, vehicle history and convenance - rather than based on a specific colour. Generally I find it best to ignore the colour range until you have narrowed the choice down to 2/3 cars and then eliminate on the basis of condition.

Obviously some colours are better than others (which will generally be reflected in the price) but the S2 Elise is a cracker in ANY colour so go on, get yourself one - and if anyone gives you grief for it's colour just leave them standing in a face full of dust!
