Best places to buy parts

Hi all

excellant forum, there so much info here & you guys really help each other out. Iam from Evo land & my day job is a company that makes carbon fibre parts & race engines for Evos.

My plan is to put but a 2.6L Evo engine with the four wheel drive AYC system, but i keep reading about these LS V8s ummmmm. so now iam not sure,lol.

Can anyone tell me the companys or people who have the best prices,to buy the various parts to build the car please. or if anyone has any parts they want to sell please PM me.

You don't say what car you want the bits for.
If your plan is to put four wheel drive in an Ultima this thread could get quite busy.

thanks for reply & the car is a Ultima GTR. heres the parts list i need:

Complete pedal set

Brake and clutch master cylinders, remote fluid reservoir
with float level, adjustable brake bias bar,
Clutch clevis with all fixing nuts and washers.

Brake line kit
Plus fittings

Steering column complete with universal joints, bearings
and fixing bolts.

Steering rack, track rods, track rod ends, alloy mounting clamps,
fixing bolts and rack boot kit.

Dual Core front mounted radiator consisting of five rows
radiator, preformed alloy water pipes, twin fans with water

Temperature sensor thermostat, alloy expansion tank,
alloy swirl pot and all fixing brackets.

Foam filled alloy petrol tank with - 6 fittings, fixing kit, tube
type fuel gauge sender unit, aircraft type external flush filler
cap, alloy mounting, filler hose and clips. 40 litre capacity.

Wiring loom complete with fuse box, relay sockets and
multi connectors for separate front and rear looms.

Body hinges, door locks, door hinges, gas struts, body securing latches and releases.

GTR laminated heated glass windscreen

Polycarbonate sidescreens with helicopter openings.

GTR Perspex headlight covers .

Shock absorber coilovers

Set of 12.7” brakes including discs, 4 pot calipers and pads, front and rear.

Seats

Headlight kit

Regarding the 4 wheel drive system, i would be interested to see what people think about this. I shall start another thread to gather comments.

Do we take it you already have a chassis and body?

Almost all of the parts on your list will be from the factory so it would be very strange for someone to have those going spare without a car to put them on.

yes i have the chassis plus various parts & body, i know that all parts can be bought from the factory. i wanted to know if anybody has found other suppliers to buy from at better prices.

If you are serious about the build, then you will find the only part that is worthwhile sourcing elsewhere [if you are a shortarse]is seats. Your list is mostly factory only and you should know this if you have already bought the basic kit.

I did not buy it from the factory so i did not know and iam not a shortarse, but thanks for your input.

You won't be the first to try and find cheaper parts. However, you will soon realise the factory, when supplying an option, deliver a very comprehensive bag of bits containing every nut, bolt, washer, rivet and mounting bracket required to fit the major part that, on its own, you have found for a few pounds less elsewhere.

By all means exercise your choice if the seat or wheel design is not to your liking but for all the other parts you will find the factory hard to beat.

We would all agree with you that they are not cheap but every option and its bag of bits have been well researched over a long period of development and you will waste valuable time trying to repeat that work.

I think you'll find all the running around you have to do to get parts offsets any perceived savings.

As for the 4WD.... if you are using an EVO drivetrain facing the wrong way, then unless you can change the crownwheel/pinion around you're going to have one forward gear.

If you insist on doing an Evo engine, go rear wheel drive.

HOWEVER.... I would go for a ride in a V8 one before making a decision.

Better off spending your dosh on a V8... if you want something a bit more high tech use an LS engine, Lexus, Audi, BMW.

i am in London, my web site is wrsracing.com. re the 4 wheel drive system, i have been working with a top engineering company that supply diffs & gearboxs for group n,wrc, f1, indy & gt racing. so we have noted the gearbox/diff problems a while ago. but as its been noted above if i was in oz, i wont need to touch the diff set up, lol.

do you guys think a 4 wheel drive system would be of much interest to many ultima owners ?

If you mean interested in talking/thinking/dreaming about it then yes, we all like to do that , but if you mean interested in actually using a particular design that you, or indeed anybody else for that matter, may come up with then I would have to say that it is not very likely.

Might as well start again as to modify the standard chassis for 4wd then you lose to much room for other stuff. Cock pit would need to be widened as My Arse only just fits with the handbrake and gear lever etc, and then battery relocated for one, then new hubs etc etc will no longer be supported by Factory, so might as well forget the compromises and start again a come up with your own car.... I have... anyway who needs 4WD with 0-100 in sub 6 range ?? IMHO
