Scirocco Vid On YouTube
VW unveils footage of its new Golf-based coupe
We’ve all seen the pics of VW’s new golf-based Scirocco sitting around at the Geneva show but now we can bring you footage of hopefully what it does best – moving.
This video is strangely void of any intro, explanation or music, but at least it gives you an idea of what the car will look like on the road.
Apparently we’d better get used to the new front end treatment as this is VW’s new ‘design language’ and most cars from the German carmaker will have it in the near future.
Discussion
I'm sure it's great to drive with that terrific 2.0 T-FSI turbo petrol engine, but is it really a coupe in the idiom of the old Sciroccos? What's the difference between a coupe and hatchback then?
Why does VW need this car in addition to the Golf GTI and the Eos? What does it do that neither of them do?
A pointless car.

The more I see a Megane Sport (a few times on the way to Courchevel recently) the more I think that if I was in the market for a 2-door hatch (let's officially invent that new non-coupe class now) then that's what would appeal. I can't put my finger on definitively why. Just looks like fun I suppose.
I don't wish to be a frightful bore, but for all those who think it's a bit 'tall', I'm pretty sure the video is 16:9 anamorphic footage 'squeezed' into a 4:3 fullscreen frame, thus squishing it horizontally, making objects look unnaturally tall/thin. The dead giveaway is the near side-on shot at around the 2min mark - the wheels are upright 'ovals'. Also the licence plate characters are stretched and too tall.
Regardless, the bloody thing leaves me cold
