Hot Start problem , but not the usual....
Discussion
I seem to have the hot start problem again. Not as bad as the usual problem though, what happens is when she is hot I turn the ignition key and get a loud click but no turnover. repeat this 2 or 3 times and shev eventually turns and starts.
I already have the hot start kit fitted and I had a new starter motor and battery fitted about 8 months ago. I know the battery is fine as the engine turns over at high speed once it decides to go.
Could the solenoid have got gunged up already ? or maybe its an earth problem ?
All ideas welcome !
Cheers

I had similar problem... had the mod installed and a new starter motor under warranty but still had times when it wouldn't start when warm. Drove me mad.
After some embarrassment I then decided that I'd had enough and would never again suffer the indignation of having to push the car away from a petrol pump to wait for it to cool down, so: (1) ran a separate, thicker wire in parallel to the solenoid with a "push to make" switch under the dashboard to use in emergency, (2) ran the wires from the starter relay through a heat resistant sleeve, and (3) wrapped the starter motor in a heat shield.
Since then it's been a good as gold. Word of warning though: heat shield material (Versa Shield) is electrically conductive. Make REAL sure that there's absolutely no danger of it causing a short. I used heat shrink on the starter motor terminals and multiple cable ties to keep the shield in place.

I had that problem a while back , new battery 6 months ago and its definitely fully charged, and holding its charge properly. I think the solenoid must have got dirty somehow *sigh*
Modwise hotstart kit is supposed to cure that.Dave

Recently had the same problem immediately after fitting a brand new starter motor. It was fine for a week or so but after the first time it jammed the starter motor became very noisy. It jammed a further three times and sounded worse and worse. Turned out to be faulty, cured with a replacement.
Sounds like the starter motor solenoid. Had the same problem a while back, took the starter motor off. Then took it apart cleaned it all up and put it back together and has been working fine since.
The solenoid had got a bit gummed up and i just cleaned it and re greased with high melting point grease when putting back together.
Might be woth ba go.
