the car is out of tax and mot(been off the road for a while on sorn) but it is insured and i was wondering weather it would be ok to book it in and drive it to have the welding work done(its not structural or causing the car to be dangerous for use on the road, actually it drives perfectly)and then from the welders to a pre-booked mot at the mot testing station for a preliminary(sp) mot and any other work (if needed)to be done.

i used to do this before without giving a second thought and i wasnt even looked at twice but what with all the anti-car bull that is being thrown in everyones faces and anpr im a bit wary of doing this.

any help would be most appreciated.

A vehicle may be used without MOT or current VEL when driving directly to or from a prebooked appointment to have repairs to facilitate the vehicle passing an MOT test or to or from a prebooked test itself.
This does not mean you can go to do the weekly shop at Tesco en route & if you try to travel 200 miles to get it repaired or tested you may be pushing it a little.
Make sure that the repairs or test are written in the garage diary when you book it in, and include the registered number when you do so as you will find they get checked up on if you are stopped.

cheers for the advice,i'll pre-book everything and get it all in writing.

(luckily the welders is only a couple of miles away from my house and the mot will be done at a garage roughly inbetween)
