The days are getting longer and so the amount of night riding I do is getting a lot less. So soon it will be time for me to put my Cat Eye away for the summer but, question is, what is the best way to store it to preserve the battery's condition? Should it be fully charged, or fully discharged? I would tend to say discharged. Anyone got any tips?

Moose.

I was going to post a simple reply, but having had a quick read of this:

http://www.powerstream.com/Storage.htm

I'm inclined to think it's more complex that I first thought!

Did it not come with instructions for this? My Enduro Maxx did, something lik don't leave it on charge, and make sure it's charged or turned on every month or something.

I'm just leaving mine on. Even on a bright sunny day there are occasions where I want the light there.

Won't the battery run flat?

I fully recharge batteries and then take them out when lights go away for the summer.

Even in mid summer I usually end up riding home in the dark as weekday evenings are really the only opportunity I get, so they'll stay mounted to the bike all year.

my lupine battery died recently. Li-ion thing. And the top tip from Lupine was to charge it fully as they dont like being discharged completely at all. as i found out to the tune of £120 for a new battery.

Storage recommendation for the lupine Li-ion battery was to fully charge and put in an airtight case then place in the fridge. The fridge does make sense as the discharge rate is much less at lower temperatures. A tupperware box and through out the old fish fingers.

All my previous NiCad efforts got drained every year recharged and away you go...

Lumicycle reckon you should store their Li-ion batteries at 40% charge in a cool location.

...or you could just do late rides and continue using them over the summer. smile

Had a look around and it seems, for mine anyway that i should fully charge them before storing and re-charge every 90 days when not in use. Sounds resonable to me.

likely a lithium based battery in this case. the cool location does work, charge is held longer at low temperatures, ie garage, or in my case the beer fridge... in a box. but be prepared for the eternal, whats that by your mates when they see a tupperware box amoungst the beerage.
