My god, my second post in as many minutes!!!

I once saw a pisture of an s reg S1 in a sort of blue and purple flip paint job. I actually prefer the gold/purple flip but have never been able to find any pictures of an elise with that colouring. I know the 'How much will it cost?' is a bit samey, but my question is actually more about where.

Where would you guys get your paint work done, and for that matter would the sort of place you would get the normal sort of 'flat' paintwork done do this sort of work (i don't mean would they wouldn't they, but do any of you use amazingly versatile places)?

Spend the money on the cars performance rather than the paint job.

The only cars that look good with a flip paint job are the TVRs everything else doesn't come close and looks pretty chavy in my opinion.

A good paint job will set you back a lot of money. You could spend it on an engine conversion, a newer car etc.

You could spend it on a bit of engine tuning (DVA power for instance) - but an engine conversion i doubt.

A proper paint job, full respray would cost a lot of money £5k+

You'd be well on the way to an engine conversion with that sort of money I'd have thought?

Chromalusion/chameleon paints come in at several hundred pounds per litre, and require particular skill in application. Budget a lot higher than standard full respray costs.

Repairs will also be significantly more expensive than ordinary paint repairs, and small scuffs may require respraying half the car to fix.

I hadn't considered the extra cost of flip paint, but a standard full respray i would have thought under £3k.

Honda/audi conversion wouldn't see much change from £10k as far as I have read around it, but there are people that know much more than i do about it! Head over to SELOC - quite a few people have done full custom resprays, and loads have done honda/audi conversions.

This Sport 190 left Lotus with Chromalusion paint but it was a special order colour, I don;t know of any others that were done by the factory.

Last time I saw it it was at Douglas Valley following a bit of a bump. I doubt it's still the same colour - must be a nightmare to apply in the first place, and even harder to repair any damage.

As well as being the most horrid colour I've ever seen on a car!

No matter how good these paint jobs are at some angles the light falls such that it looks as if the car has had a dent with different colours falling like shadows on panels that should be flat.
