Hi there,

Just wondered if anyone knew what the engines blocks for the Judd EV V8 and GV V10 were made from? I can't find a definitive answer on t'internet

Are they just aluminium or are they a magnesium alloy.

Many thanks smile

To my knowledge they are deffo not magnesium, its a terrible material to make a block from as it expands and contracts a great deal with temperature, and its actually quite soft, it was tried back in the 70's on the Ford-Cosworth DFV F1 engine, and it was a disaster, as have been other attempts....but they did carry on making the DFV cam-carriers from it.

The Judd race engines will be a high quality sand cast Aluminium, something like LM25-TF.......the TF means its heat treated to make it harder, as are all high quality ali castings for the racing industry......typically casted by companies like ZEUS or Granger and Warrall......hope that helps.

350Matt might know - as he worked for Cosworth and Judd may have used their services..

Thanks for the info and help. I also just emailed Judd (Duh! rolleyes) and they comfirmed they are an aluminium alloy.
