4k max for a 7 replica?
Discussion
Hello all, im on the hunt for a Super 7 Replica and have approx 3k -4k to spend. I appreciate that is the low end of the market but Im not expecting a Dax Rush for the money! Spotted this in the classifieds and wondered what the general feeling was on Lowcost 7's? I havnt looked at any so would be greatful for any first hand experiences on what to look for, good/bad points etc. Thought this one looked pretty well sorted? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/404823.htm
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi you will start a war with this question. We have seen it many times.
But objectivly it depends what you want it for and who built it and how they built it.
The book locost suspension has some mistakes on the front. It is not as dire as people would suggest it just could be better. If it is a home built car with chnages then you can only judge it on its own merit as they vary hugely.
My own car gives me great fun, good handling and performance. On trackdays it is more than capable of staying with some pretty accomplished sportscars. I have spent 8 years fine tuning it to my liking though.
This one looks pretty good but the only way to really tell is to drive a couple and see haow they compare. For that budget you should find several.

I've got to admit, that does look quite nice, and whilst regulars will tell you that I'm hardly a lover of Locosts, at that price - and if it's as well built as it superficially looks - then it makes perfectly good sense as a budget, 'fun' Seven (it's when people start asking £5-£7K that I'd suggest you should be looking at better options elsewhere...)
But as Studog & Snake say, the biggest potential problem with Locosts is build quality, so you really need to see the car first hand ...preferably armed with enough experience and knowledge to judge whether it's a good one!

A friend (contaminated on here) recently bought a Tiger Super 6 (SSI as it happens) for not much more than £4k; admittedly it did have to be brought back from Northern Ireland but if you aren't fussy about what engine it's got you should be able to get a Tiger Super Six for £4k, but it will be at the top of your budget.
Both Dan (Contaminated) and I are in Kent; if you haven't had a good look over any kit cars before come and have a poke around mine if you want to get an idea of what you're looking at.

Two things that strike me:
1. Buy soon before the weather changes and prices go up.
2. Rightly or wrongly a Westfield comes with credibility as a name. I've seen some nice early Westies at around £4k which will almost certainly not depreciate if looked after. Can't find any at present though.
