E38 radio conundrum -

i have a 1997 750, with teh MkI sat nav, radio, tape and cd player. My radio intermittently "freezes", in that it stays on, or stays off. When it does this, it is not possible to change the mode, or channel, or any other aspect. When it freezes "on", sometimes there is no volume at all, from any function or the sat nav, at other times the set cannot be turned off, even with the ignition key removed.

The only resolution to this that i have found is to remove the radio fuse form the driver's side boot fuse box for 15 seconds, and then replace it. This seems to reset the system, but i lose all of my settings.

This is getting extremely frustrating, can anyone please shed some light on this, please?
