I need to rig my car for penalty ballast, is there a system that you can buy or is it a case of bolting lumps of steel through the floor?

Going to be that quick John??? Hope so!

When i talked to Mark he gave the impression it was pretty much as simple as you stated above.

Thanks Mike, I just wondered wether there was anything more purposeful than a large suspension bolt, with washers, holding my unused Weider Weight collection in place!!! Cheers John

PS You testing at Brands on Friday, I've only got slicks and intermediates so watching the various waether forecasts at the moment!

Yes i am. I only have slicks and wets!! So in a similar situation. The met office was saying heavy rain. But that has now changed to being dry!

I really hope its dry. Want to try and get some proper laps in.

Are you going up thursday night?

Found it page 146, got be bolted in in four plces to the shell/chassis with 400 sq mm washers and min 8mm bolts, I think? in the passenger space.

That sounds abought wright.

I assume they havent told you that ballast is needed due to the spec of the car??

As a pointer we usually fix a frame to the car using the seat mounts/suspension bolts or similar. Fixing a large amount of ballast just to the floor of the car is not a good idea as in a big shunt it will break free and then you could have issues. I think in the regs it tells you how many nm it should withstand (can't remember the number but it is a lot)...no idea how you would measure it/check it though??

Archibold,

That is exactly our plan, three slabs of 20kg each that will bolt through the passenger seat mountings that are welded to the cage.

On the basis that the driver side mounts have to hold my 100kg in place I assume they are up to the job!

All the best

Jonny
