Erratic Speedo?

Okay, got my new car today - took it out for a drive and now and again the speedo goes nuts - shooting down either 20mph or all the way to the 0..

I read a procedure to 'zero' the counter - would this work? or is it another problem?

Sounds like the stack needs resetting, although I cannot remember off the top of my head how to do this ... All I can remember is at some point the ignition needs to be turned to position 2 ... Someone else will be able to fill in the missing spaces! I think counter 'zeroing' is when the stack reads 5-10mph when stationary.

Okay, tried the speedo reset - it didn't do anything - but went for a drive and discovered more about the problem.

driving normally with the lights and stereo on - it would happen once every 20-30 seconds or so - just flick down 20mph

under braking it would flicker down 20mph.

When I used the fan/Ac wipers or full beam - it would go mental, and drop all the way to 0.

So it sounds like some sort of electrical problem.. I will call the garage tomorrow - but no doubt its going to end up in Lotus - thank goodness it has a warranty!

Quite off topic but Fidgits - I've just put 2 and 2 together with the erratic speedo comment, I think that despite not really having much idea who you are you're one of my facebook contacts? My 2+2 may be equalling 5 though.
