If I buy a brand new F430 modena and sell it in a year with 2-3k on the clock will I get back what I paid for it?

Have seen some 2005 cars with 5k on the clock for 149k!

I don't want to speculate and mke money but it would be nice not to lose thousands for once.

Best of luck ... F430's ten a penny at the moment - if you buy slightly higher mileage in a private sale and sell in 12 months you may be ok and lose a little - but i`d have a good look at the market first if losing money is your concern.

The moment you take that ferrari off the forecourt you can say goodbye to 10k. A lot of the expensive cars have been sat at dealers for sometime.

No chance. Must have been a typo, or a complete dreamer.

Look at this way. Would you pay the same money for a brand new car and one with 3k on it? No.

Hence the used car will lose money and I'd say £10k is very conservative for first year losses.

06/07 F430 prices seem fairly static though, wish I knew if or when the dealers were going to budge on these prices.

Look at this for example:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2005-05-Ferrari-F430-F1-4-3-...

2005, 10k on the clock , 2 previous owners - 127k.

Surely overpriced?

Yes!!!!

You can buy that car in the "right colour" from even a franchised dealer for £15k less than that. I went to see an 05 plate - 7k on it the other week - marked up at £109k, they would have taken £100k for a cash deal.

Just because it is on ebay doesn`t make it a baragin - do your homework, make some phone calls and try and when you find the car you want, make a few calls to see what prices you are offerred for it - I think you`ll be shocked.

Why plan to do so few miles in such a fabulous car? 2/3000 miles is just one good Euro hoon!

'05 cars with low mileage are up for £105-109k at most dealers and will prob go for £100k at mo.

I was offered a 'new' car (400miles) in 'right' colour and spec. for £15k below list yesterday and would still expect to loose AT LEAST £10k on that car over a year.

Why? Simply because I feed up with being blasted on depreciation.

I know for sure that the Fezza is going to cost £10k for one year then I'm happy with that. But I need to be sure that's what its going to cost.

I'm actually not a red fan. Don't shoot! Is that going to seriously affect residuals?

Believe me 3,000 or 7,000 miles on a one year old F430 won't make that much difference to what you get back for it. These cars are getting much more use than of old.

If you buy a new F430 at list my guess is it will cost you a minimum of £25k in one year. Maybe more. Also bare in mind that when you come to sell the replacement model won't be THAT far way and you might even be trying to sell just as a lot of buyers are getting excited about the F149 that'll probably launch about then. Which could mean buyers diverted from 430s and more 430s on market as people try the latest new toy.

There are HUNDREDS being dumped on the market at present.

You'd be better off with a higher miles 360 or even better a mint 355.

As usual the doommonger/manic depressive that is Vesuvius overstates thigs hugely BUT there is a drop a truth in what he says. Whether anyone would say you're better off in a 360 from a driving point of view is another thing of course!

And of course, providing you pay the right price for your 430/are happy to loose a fair lump then so what if there are a lot (relative term) around? Just get out there and ENJOY. These types are cars are for living your dreams not getting all sensible over.

Perhaps I over stated it, but there do seem to be a lot of cars on the market.

Listen, I've got a 996 and I am getting an abolsute pasting!! No one is buying 911s.

So difficult. Heart vs Head etc.

Perhaps I should get into a £60k F1 360 which might be a better bet.

Only because I worry where I will be in a years time financially. I'm a freelance contractor so if the work dries up I would be looking to ship the car out.

Shouldn't happen (I've had 5 years of continual employment) but you never know...

Totally agree... I feel prices for 430's in general are about to plummet - especially after the summer silly season, and plenty of low mileage 2nd hand examples on the market currently..

If you're the kind of guy who worries like that (not crticising you for it btw) I really wouldn't buy a new 430. You're already restricting yourself to v. low miles - hardly even enough to cover one Euro jaunt - so every time you get in the car you'll be worrying about mileage and much worse, maybe just not drive it, in which case why have £140ks worth of car just sitting in the garage? On top of that I think you're going to stress for twelve months over the £25/30k you WILL loose. Unless you can just drive it and enjoy then what's the point? To me the losses are repaid in spades by the enjoyment - after all you probably spend £1000s on an all too brief holiday every year and you 'loose' all that money - but you don't sound as if you will get yourself in that frame of mind?
