Discussion
Meet the team at the Walkinshaw Performance open day.
Saturday 10th May 2008
Time: 10am
TWR & Walkinshaw Performance is headed by Tom Walkinshaw, with over 30 years experience and his unwavering commitment to excellence in engineering and motorsport has undoubtly earned him a sizeable reputation in the industry. Proudly locked into his engineering CV includes winnings for the Le Mans 24 hr endurance race with Jaguar and poling Michael Schumacher his first F1 championship title.
Not only is Tom the owner of TWR & Walkinshaw Performance but he is also the owner of the HSV business in Australia (which until recently was under the control of former HSV MD Phil Harding who is now HSV Director of export based at Walkinshaw Performance UK) which supplies Vauxhall in the UK with the VXR8 and the previous Monaro VXR and also the Chevrolet CR8 in the Middle East. Tom started out on road cars with the Jaguar Sport Brand and also running the Jaguar Sports Car Racing Team leading to Le Mans victories. In parallel with the HSV business he has run a successful racing team in V8 Supercar Series (Holden Racing Team) winning several championships and Bathurst victories. Tom also raced in a Jaguar XJS at the 1985 Bathurst 1000 and put the Jag on pole position. -

From Jaguar racing he moved onto F1, as technical Director at Benneton bringing Schumaker to the team and winning a world championship and later running the Arrows F1 team. In parallel with TWR Racing he also ran the Volvo estates in BTCC which did caused some controversy. At the same time there was also as much effort going into production road cars in the 1990s, with contract engineering the Aston Martin DB7 & Vanquish, the Volvo C70, Rover 75 Estate, Saab Viggen, Jaguar XJ220, Ford’s Puma and the Renault Clio V6. The complete empire was based in Oxfordshire and at it's peak employed 600 employees.
Today Walkinshaw Performance have workshops here in the UK (and throughout Australia) dealing with upgrades for Vauxhall as the official VXR8 tuner, they are the appointed UK HSV Performance Centre, EVO Rally supplies, Mitsubishi L200 Suspension upgrades and the official importer of Elfin Sports Cars.

Funny isnt it...I've had a Puma and currently have a Clio V6 and a Group One Rover SD1 touring car...all had the touch of Walkinshaws operation in one way or the other...A Bastos Vitesse would be my dream motor! Will probably be making the trip whatever, but for me at the mo, and good as the new stuff is, it'll the golden oldies that I'll be there for.

Wow. I always assumed Holden owned HSV! You learn something new every day.
This actually sounds great. Think I'll have to take my little Clio out for the day. Is the parking any good?

Guys,
My Vee is in the bodyshop repairing damaged caused by Buckinghamshire's marvellous road furniture (£5k of damage from a cast-iron catseye!) so I won't be making it this time.
Sorry - was really looking forward to this as well...
Enjoy the cars, weather and BBQ!
