mpg on '98 A4 2.4 SE Auto?
Discussion
Just wondering what MPG you would expect to see in this considering 90% of the time its in commuting city traffic? Only had it a few weeks, haven't really had a chance to tidy up the couple of bits that need doing let alone really get it out for a good run - but so far I seem to have managed a rather poor average of 19mpg! I wasn't expecting it to be particularly efficient, but that seems really rather low - thoughts?
I would have thought you should manage a bit better than that but it depends on driving style more so in commuting type driving.
My A6 2.8 quattro avant auto manages 30mpg @ .7 leptons and 25-27mpg @ 0.8-1.2 leptons on a run, 25mpg commuting with some country roads thrown in and very spirited driving.
Should be even better once it has its service this weekend

True mpg or according the computer?
Stop start traffic in town is a killer, my A6 2.7T auto manages around 17mpg in town and 24mpg out of town.
tested v's the computer and it seems to come up with an almost identical figure (which was a surprise). I was picturing more like 25mpg in town.Stop start traffic in town is a killer, my A6 2.7T auto manages around 17mpg in town and 24mpg out of town.
Driving style has been very sedate really. It's in need of a cam belt change so haven't been giving it big guns or thrown it around just in case!
Annoyingly I've just noticed the brand new Michelin on the rear seems to have withered and curled up into the rim since I arrived home
Oh joy! Now back into town to the tyre place...Edited by Davi on Friday 14th March 16:07

Sorry over the late reply, I have been getting messed about on a rear caliper that it needed, left calipers boxed in right labelled boxes!Stop start traffic in town is a killer, my A6 2.7T auto manages around 17mpg in town and 24mpg out of town.
That is true MPG measured off of a full tank then filled back up and calculated. The trip computer on mine has proven very accurate in the 9k or so miles I've done. I always get between 350 and 450 miles to the 75L tank (21.2mpg - 27.3mpg) with 350 being my actual lowest. I have never tested it in all stop start traffic but I did 'lose' quarter of a tank of petrol when I was in a traffic jam for over an hour once

It has just had a new rear caliper and full set of discs and pads on it. The handbrake actually works now! Service postponed until next week sometime.
Cheers
Tom
ETA: It is a '96 model with nearly 200k on the clock (just broken in
) but a year ago it had £2k spent solely on the engine (cylinder head, oil pump etc etc.) at a main Audi dealer. Plus it had had a further £5k spent on it (servicing, parts etc.) in the 3 years previous to that as the owners put 90k miles on it in that time.Edited by quattroTom on Thursday 20th March 09:55
