I don't know much about the V6 - but does the ECU just 'learn' the position once fitted?
The ECU learns the position after the battery power has been taken off for a while: take the negative wire off the battery, keep it against the positive terminal for a few seconds to 'decharge' it and reset the ECU values to default. After reconnection of the battery terminal, the ECU assumes the position in which it finds the TPS will be the closed position. The car may need to get through a complete cold/hot/cold running cycle to get all its settings right.tozerman said:

If i do that wont it just short circuit the wire ? Just a thought !!!
Shorting the wires of the consumers will have no effect whatsoever on consumers like bulbs, electric motors etc. The electronic units however (engine ECU, alarm, immobilizer, radio with anti-theft code, not much more in your average S series) have capacitors in them to keep alive its memory. a short circuit will decharge the capacitor, so that the memorised values are lost. This resets the electronic unit to default settings.
You usually get the same effect if you take the battery terminal off and leave it for several days. This is a slow way to decharge the capacitors and erase memorised values.
