A Hypothetical Question - Which one would you Buy ?
Discussion
I've read a couple of magazine (evo & car) reviews of the new Nissan GT-R which is expected to sell for between £55-60k when it hits our shores in Spring next year. If TVR were still trading, they would be selling the flagship Sagaris for £60k plus. The question is which one would you go for ?. Alternatives at the same (ish) price gratefully accepted.
Personally, I'd go for neither and buy an end of the line Ferrari 355 Spyder or GTS.

To me, the GT-R is veru fast, very potent and very capable.....but also very VERY boring
There are cars that can set your trollies on fire the moment they're released, the Nissan doesnt do any of that!!
If I was in the market for £60ks worth of motor, I certainly wouldnt buy a GT-R
I would probably buy a few cars

Even though it's a Jap, to me it has some of the essence of TVR.
I agree, it has something of the David up against the Goliaths about it. The last Sag's were priced at 63k IIRC and at the time that would give you performance that would match the main performance marques, but in the last couple of years the supercar league seems to have moved up a notch. The top 997 range of porkers appear to be a big step up from the older 996's and the new GT2 looks to be a fearsome car. Ferrari have taken a leap forward with the 430 as have Lamborghini with the Gallardo & Mucielago. Even the Corvette Z06 has really raised the bar for cheaper supercars. My point with the new GT-R though is that, looks aside, if the press reports are to be believed it can more than hold it's own against all the cars I've mentioned above and all for 55-60k. How the hell have they done it ? ok it's a Nissan so you're not paying for the badge, or for leading edge designers, but all the same it appears to be a remarkable car for the money. If TVR were still trading, the die hards would no doubt still by a Sagaris, but new customers would IMHO flock to the GT-R.S5TVR said:

The GT-R looks the part and if you believe the performance hype is a worthy successor to the R32/33 Skylines...and much less Chav than Evo's and Scoobies in my book. Personally, I'd go for neither and buy an end of the line Ferrari 355 Spyder or GTS.
If I were in the market for a tin top for this sort of money, then i would be looking at the Audi R8 or heaven forbid a GT3 RS.
If TVR were still going though, Sagaris would win hands down for me. But as they are not, and if I had £60k in loose change then it would be an Ultima GTR or GTD40.

I really rate the GT-R and if i wanted a single car to do everything i could be tempted.. But, as with al the Japanese sports cars i've been in it seems to be the epitomy of technical precision but a little lacking in soul...
Out of the two it would have to be the Sag.
(but i'd probably a low mileage 2nd hand one and spend the rest on tweakes)
