Hi all,

Mine looks more black than silver so I'd like to take it off and spruce it up - if indeed they were completely silver - I don't know. can any one recommend a good type of paint before I buy a whole tin ?

The Silver on the badges is a really thin Silver plate, easily rubbed off with a fine sandpaper to reveal Gold (well brass really)
Get a tin of Aerosol paint - any colour you like.
1. Clean the Badge
2. Spray the whole badge, including the lettering, no need to faff about masking anything off.
2a. If you want Silver writing and silver Border ......
Wrap a cotton cloth around a rubbing block/peice of wood, and wipe the wet paint off the badge immediately, while th paint is still wet.
2b. If you want Gold writing and Gold Border........Let the paint dry, then using a rubbing blovk and fine sandpaper, rub the paint off the lettering.
3. If your really fussy, lacquer the whole badge when the paint is dry (Aerosol lacquer or even a clear varnish painted on)

Hi Alan,

Thanks for that. So any silver spray and laquer from Halfords then. Presume you were refering the the "TVR" Logo badge on front of the bonnet. I was going to just unscrew it and paint it.

Why not send it off to Leven Technology for a refurb? About £35 IIRC

I was talking about the Rear Badge, There isnt much you can do with the Front one. For the rear, dont get silver, get a dark colour - any colour - spray the whole badge - then wipe/sand the paint off and the 'Writing' is revealed because it is 'raised' you can do the same for the front as well.

Thanks again for the help all. I actually meant the front bonnet badge. I assume it was completely chrome when new.scratchchin Perhaps a wander around Haflords is in order.

PS I think a new one is about 35-40 pound from CT or TVRCP - rather have a go at sorting the existing one though.

Thanks Marcus.. As an update though I wasted £10 on one of those chip repair kits at Haflords, BMW Silver and it was a total waste of time. The primer didn't stick to the chrome very well anyway and then it would have been a nightmare keeping it smooth so a spray would have been better. All I did was take the badge off give it a good clean Autosol and a bit of Brasso (as used by Derek and Clive) and then soap and water and it's come up looking nice and shiney. Also got a chance to polish behind the badge nerd.

Sorry Silver plate not chrome as Alan pointed out above.. or is that the same thing. I dont know. No it's not I don't think.
