Finally got my CBT done and out the way and I'm planning to buy a 125 to gain riding experience on. Now I find myself torn between a nice quiet, cheap, unassuming, sensible bike like a CG125 or a mean, more expensive, good looking, and non sensible bike like a CBR125.

The sensible side of me says buy the cheap, boring bike but every other part of me says buy the sports bike (even if it is only a 125)

The choices, the choices. smile

Don't bother with either.

Pay for some more training and pass your test; then use the money you would have wasted on a 125 on a decent sized bike instead

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the CBR and CG use the same engines? So theres not much besides looks between them

The silly choice would be an RS125 - expensive to buy, expensive to run, unreliable, difficult to start, uncomfortable BUT a proper mini race rep cool with a 2 stroke powerbandevil that handles well and are loads of fun. If after your full test your planning on a proper sports bike there a great intro

Although IMHO having a year on a smaller bike gave me a better chance of passing my test. I guess you could still go for the big bike test but get something a little bigger like this:

Ebay linky

until you built up a years no claims then go to something bigger/more sporty. Depends what you want it for really doesn't it? But I think that would make a nice commuter scratchchin

I would get the cbr, dont go mad but you can teach yourself alot on a 125 sportsbike without the huge power... i.e corner speeds, can even get ya knee down on a cbr125 i know someone who gets there knee down on a rs50,

Well today I put a deposit down on a CG125. I was seriously considering a CBR but in the end the sensible side of me won out. The reason behind getting a 125 to practice on is lack of confidence. The instructor who did my CBT said that I was smooth enough and all that as long as I wasn't trying to think about what I was doing and that I basically needed to just go out on a bike and chill. So there we go. Should be taking delivery of it in about a week and a half. Can't wait.
