Some of you will know that I've been having issues with my battery draining its self to death (4 in 1 year now).... obviously I've taking them back under warranty but someone is sure to twig soon that the issue is with my car.

OK I know I've got to get the issue addressed........ but its all time the garage, and as I hardly had my car last year I want to use it, and will get it sorted when its in for a service.

Any way.... PriorityStart... I understand the principles of it..... but how does it work with the central locking griff/chim etc ???????

I would say not a good idea. It appears if voltage drops below a certain level it disconnects the battery to preserve it so then no power to the doors.

Can you not get a trickle charger and leave it on that?

Steve, I'm sure we can find a solution to this. I think it would be a good idea to see what the current drain is when the engine is off. Also worth keeping an eye on the current going back into the battery when the engine running. It is probably something simple. Where is the batt on the griff? If easily accessible we could stick a meter in it tomorrow? Sure Mick will help too!!

Hoover you need a quiescent drain tester inline on the battery positive lead. Your standing drain should be well below 50mA, probably around 10mA. If it's any higher than this then you need to start pulling fuses until the drain drops. When it does you'll have narrowed it down to one circuit.

Chances are it'll be a dodgy stereo or alarm or you might have a small short to ground somewhere (trapped wire). It needs sorting out though as it might get worse.

what AL 450 said, this would be the fastest way to locate the problem, same method as used in mains wiring fault finding, hope its simple/cheap

Many years ago I had a problem with a mini...basically the electrical bits in the alternator had died, causing, even when everything was off, a 10mA drain on the battery.

This resulted in a fully recharged battery over 24+ hrs, to last about 3 days b4 it couldn't restart the car.

So I suggest pulling fuses/switch off everything and check the current drain on your battery with a meter in series b4 laying out on a new battery, although a decent local battery supplier should have a load test device to check yours to.
