Having killed my Konica/minolta slr recently, I've been on the lookout for a replacement. I toyed with a new Sony or Nikon but after a few trials, lots of reading and some first hand advice I've ended up with a Canon 40d.

After lots of searching on the internet, including the Canon cash back offer it's going to cost as near as dammit to £700 and that's with the 17-85 is usm lens, so I'm quite chuffed. I will be on the lookout for something longer but at the moment I'm looking for any useful bits and bobs. Is there anything that is really handy to have? I'll need some more batteries, will the 30d batteries fit?

The only problem now is waiting for it to arrive.

I prefer the balance of my 20d with the battery pack fitted... if that helps..
Sensor cleaning kit is a must have in my book.. maybe a rocket blower..?

Id say the rest depends on what you wanna shoot.. C/P.. remote etc...

Hmmm, so far in the last couple of weeks I've got 2 extra lenses, a remote, tripod, spare batteries and a rather nice selection of filters to play with.

Still want more, flash gun, more lenses etc....the list goes on as the wallet gets thinner!.

40D self cleans tho how good that is I'm not sure.

A remote release, and filters for what you want to shoot (CPL, grads etc), a decent tripod, 2nd battery if your going to shoot more thaa 500-600 or so a day.

4-8 gig of memory cards.
