Factory A/C good enough? and other newb questions
Discussion
Yes I'm a newb. I've been looking at these on and off for 2 years now and trying to figure out a way to get into one. I DO want to build it though, not just buy it.
Anyone have news on a GTR replacement soon? I don't want to build it, no matter how much I would love it, only to find out that six months after she's complete a whole new model is coming out.
I haven't seen any specs on what the factory A/C can handle. No disrespect intended, but I have read of British cars that do not have the capacity to handle the heat we can get in places like missouri, usa. I'm talking 100-105F(on bad days admittedly) then tacking on enough humidity to make your stomach wrench. Throw in all the glass on this car and you have a nice mobile steam generator. Would I need to look at upgrading the A/C in some fashion?
I believe that previously there were two radiator options listed? I may be remembering incorrectly, but I was pretty sure. Now the ultima price list only shows one. Wasn't there a larger option for the more powerful engines? After reading cj's build page, and the simple fact it gets far hotter here regularly, I'd be concerned about this.
I've also seen some ultima's with an integral/molded rear wing. Are these custom/aftermarket jobs or just not something listed on the main options on the website?
Last, but not least. I'm a fair bit over 6 feet tall. I had read somwhere previously that there was a different setup available for drivers over 6 feet tall. Is this still the case? (It's possible I was reading about the sport and not the gtr). The guy shown driving the gtr on CJ's site looks like he is all but eating the steering wheel, though he seems to have some head room at least. One of the tour pages talks about a guy with a bad knee and the lack of leg room when driving long distances. I'm not a track racer, though if I acquire one of these that might change
, and just want one of these babies for the street.

Reference the A/C, you better wait for the US contingent to reply as our (UK) opinion may not have the same level of authority.
I’ve not heard of a replacement or any hint of one. In kitcar terms the GTR model is relatively new.
The integral moulded rear wing was on the previous model to the GTR.
I’m over 6 foot and fit without problem but you will need the ‘Drop Floor’ option which gives the required headroom.
The appearance of being on top of the steering wheel is probably fair but bear in mind, that in the UK at least, the cars are fitted with 4 or 6 point racing type belts so the dash has to be close so you can reach the controls. Look in a NASCAR.

DeSade,
I rode in the silver GTR demo with the A/C on, and it was extremely cold, with an outside temp about 80-85F. I was concerned with this question too, as I am in Ontario, Canada (humid)and will use mine for tours through the western US (hot).
I am 6'8" tall, and will have to customize the seat for head clearance, even with the dropped floor pan. I will also need a dropped zone in the floor for my heels as my massive shoes were touching the steering column. After sitting in a partial chassis, I am confident I can comfortably fit, but I think 6'8" is the absolute maximum.

Steve D: I thought the GTR was in it's 4th year? Thought I read somewhere that "after 6 years", "introduce new model" and they were speaking of the move from the Sport to the GTR. Rear wing on the Sport! That's what I saw. Thank You. I've got fairly long arms, so the steering wheel distance is rather important. Same with the leg room.
