I'm not far off needing a pair of rears for my Exige and it appears that Lotus and the dealership network have me by the soft round ones?

A local Yoko supplier can get 48's in the same sizes etc, but not with the (LTS) stamp on the side.

My only concern with not buying the dealer supplied tyres is one of insurance, should the unthinkable happen, as there are NO alternatives listed in the owners manual?

Anyone else found a way to overcome this, or are we stuck with giving over £650 for a set of quite small/narrow and not too highly speed rated tyres (I could re-shod my 911 for £700, rated for 182mph and weighing considerably more)?

£450 for Toyo 888's Often used equivalent

Comparable tyre for you Porsche would be much more than 700, ask any GT3 RS driver! Don't confuse speed rating with how good a tyre is.

Fair point, I know you couldn't get Cup Sports for that money, but £650 still seems steep for the 48's?

Perhaps I should stop being so stingy!!

Re: the insurance question, I suppose it would just have to be suck it and see (or hopefully not)?

Nah - they're talking about a full set of 4.

Toyo 888s are imho just as good as the 48s on track, plus they don't suffer from a common problem with the 48s - fronts wobble at 85mph (nowt to do with balancing).

personally i would go for the non lts 48.

Just because its not in the manual means nothing.

Alos the fact they use non-lts in the elise racing series shows they are fine.

There are several A048 compounds MH is equivalent(ish) to LTS (and R888s) in terms of grip/wear. We race on M compound which grips more but wears faster.

Would you care to elaborate where you paid such a good price?

Sorry but I'm not going to risk my friend getting into any bother with his employers after helping me out.

Just saying you can get them cheaper than £650 for a set of rears is all.

You can get them from the camskill site, I posted the link, for even cheaper they're just not LTS stamped.
