CV8 Rolling Road Results !
Discussion
Some time ago I posted a request for anyone who had tested the claims made by resellers of upgrades by taking their car to a Rolling Road. Having discovered that my car came with a Wortec Catback and a remap. Despite this the car had never felt strong at the top end and I figured there must be something wrong so I booked myself in for a Rolling Road tune with Mark at RapidGB.
I turned up at Rapid with a 2005 CV8 which despite a Wortec Cat Back and remap. Despite the upgrades the car has felt pretty poor and inconsistent since I bought it a few weeks ago.
Mark ran it up on the dyno and the peak was suprisingly good at 348hp at 5200 revs. However the top end still looked as bad as it felt. The power going fluffy beyond 4600 and dropping dramatically above 5200 revs.
After 8 runs the peak power was up to 358.5 hp at 5200. Not bad! More impressive was the extra power it now makes from 4600 to the red line. He found a solid 20hp all the way between 5500 and 6200. The car is transformed. MUCH more responsive, and much quicker at the top end. The asthmatic rattle that put me off any 5000 rev adventures previously has been replaced with a snarl and an eagerness to rev that the car never possessed until Mark worked on the mapping.
The curious thing about the mapping is that the AFR that gives the best power is surprisingly random. I will post the before and afters when I get to work Monday. You will see what I mean.
There is a lot of BS in the tuning world. Mark has taken the bold step of investing in a Rolling Road and I have to tell you he has transformed my car for £300. So whatever you have, I HIGHLY recommend a trip to see Mark.
He also gave me a run in a 520hp supercharged VXR8 he had knocking about.....now THAT is seriously good value for money!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Cars dont generally tune themselves (or detune) most of the reasons behind a reduction in performance can be traced back to a mechanical change or issue. eg. dirty air filter, crap fuel etc etc. Glad its sorted though.
PS
If its an 05 Model CV8 the manufacturer claimed power is 354ps.

Brian, whilst you are on can you remember who did the remap on the Astra VXR (blue)that we were lent when I had my first supercharger fitted at greens.
Sorry about the thread hijack.

We are pleased that you are happy with your new remap. I was hoping to be able to post a plot of my Rolling Road tune, but frankly dont know how to. If anyone cares to see the plot, then reply telling me how to upload it.
To clarify a couple of points on the subsequent postings...
1. The car is an 04 spec car so sadly only 333hp stock.
2. Mark never gave me any discount for singing his praises. I chose to publicise the quality of his work because I was so impressed with-
a. The results and the fact that I have documented evidence of the results.
b. His straight forward attitude to his work.
c. He doesnt rubbish anyone elses work - usually a sign that someone is confident in their own work.
d. His realistic pricing.
I am not here to compare one tuning company with another. I am just reporting on an extremly positive experience with one of the many excellent companies that exist to support our collective addiction - to power. We choose to spend our hard earned money to feed the addiction, and Mark is one of best connections I have made.
If your addiction for power needs some attention, then I highly recomment RapidGB.

Marks Dyno has the latest version of shootout
the rules dicate that the car must be run in the gear where max power was produced between 60 and 100 mph - this is usually 3rd gear and contary to belief a car normally makes max power at the wheels in 3rd
if the software senses a run in the wrong gear - in this case the car was run in 4th - the shootout box is removed and the graph is invalid
was a graph done in 3rd gear ?

All previous shootout runs appear to have been in 4th gear, regardless of operator. Surely different cars have different characteristics and suggesting that one gear suits all is naive.
I too have had a dyno operator tell me that 3rd gear is the most accurate to use - something to do with dyno readings when you get a bit over 100mph generating larger errors. Mind you said operator also swore that my maximum losses through the gearbox etc would be 40hp so I took his advice with a pinch of salt.
