Nice to meet you today. Thanks for the tip with the VR. Turning it off seemed to help my panning. Some reall quality shots, particularly like the detail ones.

VR turned off

I found the VR hindered panning shots too, never bothered with it on my 70-200 f2.8. I ended up selling it recently as I found myself having problems with it focusing, I dont think I am the first either.
Now using the older model, 80 - 200 f2.8 with no problems at all.

I've uploaded mine to here:

I've also added links to the other sets of shots from the events I've found so far as well.

Here's a small selection of mine.

Some great shots above cool Interested in folks' comments re VR and panning - I may try the same next time myself, see the difference.... My pics here http://www.flickr.com/photos/jason-l/sets/72157604132976496/  - which happen to be mostly panning with VR on.

I wasn't particularly photographically inspired on Sat, so spent most of my time watching (and thinking my Caterham isn't much use still being on axle stands! rolleyes).

Some great shots. Especially like the second one.

What sort fo shutter speed do you use to get that motion blur? Any stabilisation on the lense or just steady hands? smile

Can you say what sort of settings you were using, I was doing some panning shots at the weekend (will upload later) and found shutter priority at about 1/125 seemed to work quite well.

Thanks for the comments smile (Nikon) VR (Normal mode - permits Hz panning) is on in these shots but, like I posted earlier, I may try VR off next time.

You can click on 'More properties' (in right hand column) for any photo in my Flickr gallery to view the EXIF: For the in-profile pans they're mostly at 1/80 shutter priority. The 3/4 angle shots are around 1/125.

Some nice shots there! Here's a few from me..

Most taken with Canon 40D, Canon 100-400mm, Manual, ISO100 - 200, 1/125 - 1/200, shot in Raw, and tweaked a little in DPP.

There's 280 on my flickr account if you are bored wink

Cheers,

Neil.

you need to have it set to panning mode so it only corrects for up and down movement otherwise it tries to correct for the side to side movement during panning which can cause blury shots.

I have the canon system, it has a similar setting (mode 2) that senses the direction of the pan then stops stabilising that axis.
I still get the occasional 'grabbing' effect through the viewfinder though, guessing it needs a moment to identify whether the movement is an intentional pan.

I've had good results with IS turned on and off, so normally i just leave it on (mode 2). Though recently i read somewhere that people were suggesting that AF was faster with it disabled, not had chance to test that yet...

Cheers.
