Smoke at Speed

After coming back from a run over the moors this afternoon my mate said I had a bit of blue / white smoke that came out of the left hand exhaust under high revs is this normal ? only came out of one side and only happened once, he was not overly sure as to the colour of the smoke butg decided on blue / white.

May be way off here but check that you dont have a leaky diff. Mine has a very slight leak and the fluid ends up on the hot pipes just before they enter the back box.
I havent seen smoke from this but you can smell it after an enthusiastic drive!

The leak is due to be fixed on Tuesday, should cost around £80.

Dont think it is that no signs of oil on the garage floor.

Same here. It only drips slightly and only when the car is in motion.. hence no oil on the garage floor.

Probably not the cause of your problem but was worth a look!!

What sort of smell do you get if diff is leaking on exhaust?

Its a smell all of its own!!. Still an oily smell, but not like engine oil. Also, you can tell its coming from that area as its much stronger if you smell just above the rear wheel arch. This is far easier to do when parked

Spoke with Andy at APM today who mentioned that the diff has a breather pipe that can discharge small amounts of oil so it may just be this in my case?????
