Over the winter months ive fitted new trumpets and dressed up the engine bay. Now ive put it back to gether it wont start. It turns over but just wont fire up. The battery is brand new so, as there was no spark ive fitted a new coil and plugs.
Still no joy.
ive read through the forums and checked what i can, in the end called the RAC.
As there is no pulse the the injection. RAC man recons its either the ignition amp or the imobiliser.
How do I check the ignition amp and the imobiliser????

Not many tests you can do on an ign amp apart from replacement. is yours by the coil?? if so its a lucas DAB118. I would check immobiliser side first tho. Don't really want to discuss how to get round this on here tho.

Sorry i came across wrong, i'm no expert, i just meant i don't think many would be willing to discuss this on here. I think if you search for Carl Baker/immobiliser on here he seems to be the man for all your alarm needs.

If the breakdown man's sure the injectors are not firing it's not the ignition amp that's the problem.

Does the fuel pump spin up for a second or so at ignition on? It should do.

The first thing I'd check is the pair of identical Bosch relays in the footwell. They're the metal-cased relays. Swap them around, flick them and check the terminals (and those in their sockets) are clean and dry.

The ecu relies on the ignition amp..coil for engine speed (like the rev counter) - it wont fire the injectors if it thinks the engine is not rotating.

Sorry, yes, it's triggered off the amp output, not the input.

As you have been working under the bonnet, and I assume all was well before you started? I'd go back & check all the connections again. When this has happened to me in the past it has NEVER turned out to be due to something giving up the ghost while I've had the car in bits.

Just to close this out. its fixed

It turns out it was the coil was not earthed.
I had the plenum and any brackets attached to it powder coated. Richard from RT Raceing in Sheffield figured it out in no time. Easily fixed by grinding off a bit of powder coating to create a good earth.

All i have to do now is fix the hole in the wall where ive been banging my head:banghead
