Feckit! One of my pod motors has stripped the nylon gear teeth. It goes up OK and holds, but plummets like a stone back into the recess. To be fair, I knew it was going when I was making my new indicator units, but I thought it might have lasted a bit bloody longer.
So if anyone has a good spare, or even just the nylon gear, I'm all ears...

I'm told (teaching my grandmother how to suck eggs ) that it's a TR7 unit (?). Amongst the paperwork that came with my 390SE, I've got the name and number 'Rob Sports - 01763 848673 written on a telefaxed copy of a diagram of the Headlamp Lift System. The telefax has the name and number 'Rimmer Bros - 01522567600' at the top.

I was told that reconditioned (?) motors are available (from one of the above) at GBP20.00 each (+p&p).

Hope this is of some help.

Streaky: they are indeed TR7 units. I should maybe have added 'before I go making phone calls'...!
I doubt that even a backstreet breakers would let one of these go for 20 quid, let alone a 'reconditioned' (for which read 'wipe with an oily rag') one.
But I'll give Rimmers a call; you never know...

Exactly the same happened to me - and I expect many others. The motor is OK but the nylon teeth go. I got one from a rusted TR7 in Haynes of Challow (near Wantage). £10!!!. That was a month back, so they may still have the other side if you need it, and it is close to you.

Wantage is nowhere near me... maybe Streaky?

I rang Rimmers: they have no new ones, and no reconditioned ones either. However they can send mine off for a recon. for £41 plus TWAT. Sorry, VAT....
Now that means that someone out there is doing the work and Rimmers are adding a cut: so come on, who is it? Own up and we can cut out the middle man.
I'm assuming that this recon. includes a new gear: last recon. unit I saw, the paint was falling off. If the paint is that bad, what exactly do they do for 41 quid? In my book, a recon. would include new motor bushes or bearings, new brushes and the commutator polished, new nylon gear, cleaning, painting and rewiring to a new connector. I can't see 41 quid covering the labour, never mind the parts.
So the question stands: anyone got a spare one?
I'd rather put my money in your pocket...

Try along these lines.
Post the tpi diamaters etc.& i'll look this end as well.
Alternatively if its thermo-hardening try gently melting it,squidge the teeth, then get to work with your needle filesThen it,swear a lot then get your 41 quid out

Hmmm, useful contact, that.
Haven't pulled it to bits again yet (been replacing the pod bolts with some stainless I had lying about: highly entertaining trying to drill the cross-holes for the lockwires!).
I did think of taking a mould off the good section of the gear, and making a repair section out of metal-loaded epoxy, but if I can find a supply of the correct gear it would be easier.
Ironically, I have a lathe, but have never done any gear cutting (no indexing facility either). This is exactly the kind of thing I bought it for... doh.

Ian - I have one if you get really stuck (I got a pair off a TR7 in the breakers a couple of years back), but don't really want to part with it as mine is bound to play up if I do! I flogged the other one a few months back.

I seem to remember Steve Heath saying he had a couple of spares knocking around - Steve?

Cheers Chris: I'll take a look! I do have an offer from another 'Header as well, but thanks anyway Danny! (You been on hols, by the way? Haven't noticed you on here for several days...)
The motor's not desperate as it still goes up and stays there; it just doesn't come down very elegantly!

Ian - I had a long weakend at the beginning of last week, Devon in the Wedge, glorious sunshine and I picked up a couple of new spotlamps for £15 each from someone on eBay who lived a couple of miles from where we were staying.

Heaven - but I have then spent all week trying to catch up with work, e-mails etc etc - so only got on PH lastnight for the first time in ages.
