Hi all, I got a TomTom 720T today and it says it has traffic avoiding ability. When I plug it into my computer though, it says to update the traffic I need to buy a years subscription to the service, as with the safety camera updates. Is this true?

Hi Nick,

I think you'll find thats true. I've had the 510 for a year now, but I'll be getting the 720 tomorrow hopefully. I don't need the traffic updates so wont bother with that. You should have the cameras installed but will need to subcribe to have them updated. I've heard there are better sites to get the camera updates from though. Will e-mail you after I get mine and compare notes.

The 720T comes with the TMC traffic receiver which is the bit you plug in. That comes with a free lifetime sub but is generally accepted as being rubbish.

The traffic TomTom Home is referring to is TomTom Traffic which you pay for then it connects through your mobile to get data. You will also be charged for the data by your phone company unless you have it bundled in. When it can connect it works a treat but my 720 randomly won't connect through the phone.
