I have a leak from the flexible part of the exhaust system (the lowest bit that has several dents in it)

It is welded into the pipes either side.

How do I get it repaired with out buying a whole system ?

Any thoughts anyone ?

Any half decent exhaust place (preferably one that can make systems from scratch) can weld in a new flexi joint, or even a solid section. Funnily enough, I've had two different exhausts on my car and on both the flexi had been replaced with a solid pipe.

I assume the flexible part is there for a reason (to cope with engine movement etc)so would be a little reluctant to have a solid pipe replace it and find other things breaking, rubber mtgs etc.

Has anyone else got solid pipe all the way ? Any problems ?

Can anyone recommend anybody near Woking that could do the work (at reasonable cost )

Mine is solid. I didn't even know there was supposed to be a flexible section!

Yes mine is a 500.

Perhaps, more torque, more engine movement so some flexibility needed ?

The need for a flexi depends on how the exhaust is mounted and how soft the exhaust moounts and engine mounts are. Basically the engine will rock particularly when coming under load from an unloaded state. This will then strain the exhaust system and in particular flanges if there is insufficient "give" in the exhaust mounts.

A flexi is therefore highly desirable and as others have said can easily be welded in. You shouldn't need a whole new system.

If your existing fexi has broken down it could be due to something simple like corrosion, or it could be due to movement (yes the break down as part of doing their job). If its movement, would suggest that you can't afford to be without one.

I have had no end of problems with relatively stiff exhaust mounts and no flexi. Flanges opening up in the main. Flexi installed and problems have gone away.

The leak is due to me living in an un-made road and grounding the car and denting the flexible pipe.
