This is in a German bike magazine and was also mentioned briefly in Moto Journal, French magazine late last year.
It's meant to be a Europe-wide law.

I have no doubts that we will find ways round it.
Or could they make it stick?

Not again! They tried to push this through a decade or so ago!

I think the French already have a 100bhp limit...?

Yes, that's my understanding too.

This was tried about 15 or so years ago but was dropped when it was shown that there was NO correlation between bike power and accident rates. Given that one of the reasons that the UK objected to it was unofficially related to lobbying from Triumph, I don’t think that either BMW or Ducati/Aprilia will take this without a bit of a fight and thus some pressure on their respective governments.

BMW were originally one of the biggest supporters of the 100hp limit

Renew your memberships with the BMF to give them funds to fight this crap.

That was when they didn't have any bikes over 100 bhp. Suspect it might be a different story now, with the mooted WSB homologation bike on the cards, to say nothing of the latest K1200 and even the latest R1200 bikes.

Sadly, I think this is inevitable, as now that bunch of knobs in Parliament have signed up to that EU consititution that we can't call a constitution......I suspect we're fecked as to be able to fight any impending EU wide rules such as this.....

And it won't be long before the TUV issue will happen as well, so that'll be the end to any non-manufacturer or TUV approved parts being fitted......

As other posters have said, this idea has been bouncing around since the early 90's. Sadly, with the apathy shown by the public and the new 'stealth green taxes' approach favoured by this govt, if they wanted to get it through, i suspect it will happen in the end.
So, buy that ugly 'busa or YZF nutsackripper with the 160 odd HP and enjoy it while you can.

There is no news about this for the moment. It's been flying around for donkey's years.

France is the only country in Europe with a 100bhp limit for the moment. Although almost all of the bikes (once on the market) are derestricted by the dealers.

Apart from being the "thin end of the wedge", what's the big deal? 100 is plenty. Just so long as they restrict cars to 150 !!

would be interesting to see what the bike manufacturer's can make engine wise with the power capped to 100bhp

i'm sure it could be alot of fun cool

Hmmm, 100 BHP, a gazillion ft/lb of torque, new rear tyre please.

So if this happens the manufacturers will still make the big HP bikes for other less 'dumbed-down' markets so UK/EU models will just be restricted and we all know how easy restrictors are to get round.

They'll probably tax (for 'safety' reasons, of course) big bikes out of existence first...... rolleyes

They'll just make them (even) lighter instead, just think of it, an RGV style bike with an R1 motor biggrin Where do I sign.

Speaking as a 19st bloke with a 150bhp bike, they can kiss my fat hairy arse.

Until there is a power to weight ratio limit like there is already on learner and restricted access bikes.

Triumph already getting prepared for it. biggrin

But with a set power limit maybe a more likely target would be a 500cc producing 100bhp in a 150kg bike (with strokers banned at Euro4 etc.) Not quite the objective they had in mind when people fly past at 20,000rpm. hehe
