BT 21CN rollout

[mondeoman]

Had a visit today from a chap flogging connections and phone systems for the new BT IP network (21CN). Basis of the sell was "free" UK calls, reduced costs and "free" handsets. For us as a business it would halve our phone and internet bills, and thats not to be sniffed at.

But I'm always a tad wary of something for nothing....

Does anyone have first-hand expereince of using the this in their area - does it live up to expectations or is it a pile of dog poo that wont really come alive til the whole UK network is covered by it - we live and die by our phones and if they got screwed up we'd be finished.

It's not launched yet. There are trials running in the West Midlands, Cardiff and other areas so maybe you're in the catchment being in the Midlands? The less scrupulous folks out there see impending change like this as a great opportunity for customer confusion, telling them that BT are turning off ISDN and other porkies.

If what you want to do is reduce costs then it can be done without buying a new phone system. If you are in the market for a new phone system then buy one that supports either analogue or ISDN (depending on what you have now and the features you want) and SIP and you'll be able to play the market as 21CN, and competing products from other service providers (plenty of which are available now), get rolled out. If you want any more advice then please email me via my profile, we do this for a day job.
