Porsche AG,the German maker of the 911 sports car, said total North American sales rose by 9% in July from the year earlier month, boosted by demand for the Cayenne Sports utility vehicle.

Sales in the US & Canada climbed to 2,696 units.Sales of the companies 911 & Boxster models slipped 49% from the year earlier month figures.

I posted something similar last month, based on June sales....It seems the Americans like the Cayenne

CS...according to this weeks Autocar, there are "boatloads" of Cayennes unsold in the States & dealers are having to ..SHOCK, HORROR, PROBE.... DISCOUNT heavily to move stocks, as the Yanks haven't taken to them in the quantities expected, the writer commented "who wants to spend $60k on an SUV particularly when it looks like a Hyundie" or words to that effect !!!

I live in the US and will offer my narrow comments. The pepper Turbo seems to be selling well, you rarly see any of them for sale on the local dealers lots. The "S" is in stock everywhere. We drove by one dealer this week and my son counted 40+ S models parked on the lot.

The early sales are boosted by the "I have to be the first on my block to own one of these" crowd. It will be interesting to see what the sales are when/as that slows down.

As a side note, I drove an S and a Turbo, very impressive. My problem is that I use a truck for soccer every weekend, tow on the weekends, and haul crap for home projects. I don't want to do that in a nice truck...
