Me and susser have just rebuilt my GT gearbox, it was a bit noisy in 3rd but rest of gears where fine,
Now we've rebuilt it 1st and 4th are ok, but 2nd and 3rd are awful, really noisy. Weve done bearings, everything else lookes pukker,
Why should only 2nd and 3rd be noisy? My first thought was layshaft, but surely this would effect 1st as well?
Went out for a blat saturday and it was like a really bad hangover combined with heavy metal music,
I dont want to have to pay someone for it (not tight, just prefer DIY), just need a gearboxy person who understands what it could be, its not the doing, its the knowing what to do, dont want another rebuild and still noisy box!

I would also suggest that the fault is with the layshaft, the slightest distortion will cause problems such as uneven wear, rapid wear rates. You may well find your new bearings wearing quickly too.
On my Sons motorbike gearbox an space washer was incorrectly fitted, this was enough to destroy the gearbox!
Why not have the layshaft checked for accuracy then at least you will know for sure one way or other.
