Our "bosses" the EU, are discussing today ways of introducing electronic data exchange with the police to ensure ALL motoring fines are collected across the 27 states. So no more "I was flashed in France will there be a comeback? threads!! The planned system should be able to let all police and enforcement groups throughout the EU exchange all license and vehicle data and enable the local enforcement to collect the fines for other EU agencies for the "crimes" in other lands. This paves the way of course for an EU-wide points system with an EU-wide totting-up, and an EU-wide license...so bye-bye to the "foreign" license after you've lost your own...
To date only Germany has an agreement (in law) with Austria to enforce payment/collection of fines across borders....

This is one time I hope the EU is woefully inefficient and although they agree in theory, it takes another 50 years to institute.

By which time, I probably won't care.

Does that mean that the UK will adopt one of the continental systems for licence points? e.g. in Poland you have to accumulate over 24 points in order to lose your licence, and the points only stay on your licence for 12 months.

My cousin is a policewoman in Italy. She tells me that even within Italy, the system is so poor, that they cant tell if you've lost your license fromone half of the country to the other, ie the Sicilian system isnt linked up with the system in Milan, for example.

I'd find it hard to believe that something like his would come in in the kind of numbers that would be successful, to the same extent, across the entire EU zone. Just think of the communications, the data centre, the firewalls, the processes and policies. And this applies to some countries that are almost bankrupt. Who is going to pay for all this?

It might happen, but it wont be for awhile, I don’t think.

Don't forget that Kent is already supplying the frogs illegally with drivers details and collecting cash for them.
There is already an agreement between Austria and Germany, a french agreement with germany will soon take place...
the belgies sent me something here in Germany which I couldn't understand as it was in some foreign language...

I agree it seems impossible that they'd get their computer programmes all on one level
BUT it's about MONEY and they'll do anything to fill their greedy boots
