I've noticed that as a country we do a lot of moaning (well i do anyway) yet take no action, this has got beyond a joke, why when you even mention this or the petitions people poo, poo the idea and suggest that no one will listen, well if you shout loud enough then they will. The Poll Tax was scrapped in 1991 due to 100,000 people marching in London so if there is enough then the goverment will stand up and listen

If every person who is even remotely interested in cars did something instead of moaning and just accepting it and if teh present goverment thought they would lose votes then surely they would stand up and take notice.

So who would take part if this got off the ground?

I know i would.

Have done a search on here today & no doubt some may be aware of this

I just saw this link to early signs of protest by others and posted on another forum

http://fuelandtaxprotest.mfbiz.com/#

It semms some may be looking at action - dont know if it'll take off but they seem keen to want to spread the word

I'm sure some might wish to chhoose to offer some support and put names down

http://fuelandtaxprotest.mfbiz.com/#/protestlist/4...

.......You add details and a message it pastes the whole lot into the list - thus your name is shown as posted on top of the list but with comments added.

It also causes your username to be a hyperlink to the site you entered on the submission form.

The link isn't clear re this and there's no option to edit so so bear this in mind before entering info.

Signed up - looks exciting - It'll be good to actually do something instead of moaning - Hopefully we'll see change but if not at least we made an effort.

I dispute your recollection.

The poll tax was scrapped due to so many people not paying that it became and administrative nightmare to get the cash of everyone. In the end it was probably gonna cost more than they'd get in revenue!

To *maybe* make a difference, aAll write letters to your local MP (esp if they're members of the incumbent party). What REALLY matters to MPs is their place in the commons.

In many respects, the amount of tax isn't *that* much of an issue IF (and it's a BIG IF) the money was all spend properly on the roads. We would see value for money which we don't now.

Personally I favour scrapping road tax altogether and put the duty up on fuel to compensate. This way people can save money by driving less, more frugal car etc. With road tax, you pay X amount whether you do 500 miles a year or 50,000. Also means less administration for the DVLA, less cost to taxpayers (we can get rid of loads of costs & people from the DVLA), can't avoid the tax either and so on.

exactly right and I still do not understand why the gov't don't do this.

how about organizing a mass demostration against the dvla as they are the tool that the Gov use to extort money from the motoring public through road tax recently doubled from 200 to 400 pounds you may think that this may not affect you now but it certainly will within the coming years as you update your current car , I would welcome an organized mass posting of complaint letters on a given day ie 200 thousand letters all having to be ansewerd with the sole aim to cause upset within the dvla just for starters.

Because they want the little black boxes in our cars to tell them where we are at any given second of the day - the ultimate step in Nanny State control...

Great idea, but ideas don't work unless people do. Let's face it, although all motorists have a vested interest few are willing to do anything about it. Motorists are accepting the reality that we are well and truly shafted for ever more.

Just as smoking pipes became unacceptable, then cigars and now cigarettes - the same will happen to big cars, gas guzzlers etc.

Drive a Smart car and no-one looks aggressively at you - drive a Porsche or a 4/4 and you are likely to get nasty looks.

BTW, I love motoring but feel terrorised by the 1000's of speed cameras, dishonest traffic wardens, new rules everyday, millions of pot holes, too much traffic everywhere because public transport is so crap, increasing motoring costs, Polish lorries etc etc

Whereas track driving offers an escape, the glory days of motoring are over - sad, but true.

My dream protest is to persuade car owners to register their cars on a SORN for 1 month, or more, and reclaim all their outstanding road tax back from the DVLA.
You then watch, with agreat big smug smile, Brown, Darling and co furrow their brows!

Remember it is only a dream!
