In the current environment. A multi-currency deposit fund would seem sensible.
Either that or 75% cash on despoit. 20% split between dividend yiedling equities and corporate bonds. and 5% into a spread betting account to play with.
Maybe some N&SI RPI bonds if a higher rate taxpayerEither that or 75% cash on despoit. 20% split between dividend yiedling equities and corporate bonds. and 5% into a spread betting account to play with.

What do people think are the best stock market sectors at the moment ie. Banking?
Thanks to the offers of buisness opps but this is all theoretical

Im certainly no expert but have been watching barclays shares with interest, they have been below £4 a few times over the last couple of weeks, Im thinking of buying in and sitting on them and hope they get back up there the dividend will be worth a few quid even if they hover around the price they are and at £4 surely they have to be a reasonabley safe bet..but suppose the same could have been said about Northern Rock

If you buy a property in Slovacia and keep it for five years there is no capitol gains tax, flat in Bratislva market rising 20 to 30% pa job done.
looked into this market and think its a lot of hot air. Rentals are poor and the local economy is not rising anywhere near the level as these flat prices, so when you come to cash it in, who on earth are you going to sell it to ?haworthlloyd1 said:
If you want to invest your money without you having to 'work' with your money you could have a look at investing in Brazil at the moment. .
I take your Brazil and raise you Argentina. My plots of land i bought in a country club near BA is worth 3 times the amount i paid in just 12 ish months and there is deff a local market, infact there are waiting lists for plots in exclusive country clubs. Also Agricultural land over there is a superb investment. This type of investment even increased when the Argentina economy crashed, which is staggering.
I also agree with you that there are some property bargains out there at the moment, takes time and effort to find the good ones though.
I would much rather invest money in something I had some effect on - for example a business. The problem with "investments" is that you are always going to be at someone else's mercy. I appeared to have made quite a lot of money in the past when I sold my first business to a Plc - which shortly afterwards went bust leaving me with a pile of worthless shares.
From that point onwards, I decided I would never be in a position where somebody else could make all my money disappear. For that reason, I personally would always prefer to invest in a small business - something where you can identify all the risks and have a significant impact on the outcome. There aren't many small businesses which are going to disappear overnight because someone presses a button somewhere (provided you have researched and understood the business properly). The safest place for my money is my own business, because I know exactly what's coming in and what's going out.
So personally - I would use 100K to buy a small business of some sort. There are various websites that have listings of businesses for sale.
