I find myself this week driving (rental car) a new shape TT coupe with the 2.0 fsi engine. I think it looks great from the outside but it seems to lack the interesting bits from the inside of the old version. Dont get me wrong it's all well made, but it is just a bit plain (my very fave car interior is the cerbera and I know thats like comparing apples with bananas). On the road it is pretty impressive, but I'm not sure if its very special. I have never driven one of the old ones and I wonder how does it compare to the new one?

New car drives better and is more practical - but it's not as special.

I think your feelings above reflect the state of play quite well.

A spirited drive through some suffolk backroads yesterday, and I quite respect the quality of the TT, although the damp muddy roads had the traction control kicking in a fair bit, maybe the 4WD version would be better suited, but still not as much fun as my old mx5 on the same roads.

I handed it back today after 1200 miles in a week, back to canada now and some RWD fun in my dodge nitro!
