A few HDR's from this week
Discussion
Evening folks,
Have been practicing like mad with this recently. Nothing over processed, just really a matter of putting the photos together and minor editing, cropping etc... Think i need to purchase the full version now, after having loads of fun with the trial...

And i went back to the mill for another practice...

I shot this with five bracketed exposures at the weekend, and then ran it through HDR software - quite pleased with the result.

What does the full Photomatix give you over the basic one?
I don't think I know enough about what I'm doing (and don't have an SLR) but am a bit dissapointed with HDRs I've tried yet some on here are absolutely stunning!
I'm well aware the LHS of this image doesn't match up!

This is better from this afternoon but still is not very striking and seem quite dull?!! (Also something looks weird in bits of the clouds)

What can I do to improve these?

Arej - I reckon they look a bit dull because they aren't HDR subjects. in other words, if the range of dark to light tones in an image can be captured with a standard shot, there is no extra dynamic range for HDR to make a difference with. Perhaps Roadrunner3 could post his component images so you can see what I mean.
john185k - Like the look of those, but any chance of losing the borders? They just make the actual image too small to see properly on my screen.

I've had a bit of a go with the built-in HDR facility in photoshop. The stupid thing is I haven't had any chances to shoot a decent subject (dark outside, no interesting lighting...) so it's ended up being the sink in my room! Hardly artistic, but hopefully there's enough dynamic range to proof that it's worked(?)

Try picturenaut too:

It's free and seems to work quite well. I am a photography novice, so I'm still understanding exposure etc. but HDR is definately very interesting

Does anyone else use Photoshop CS2 for HDR?
I had a go outdoors last night, thinking that a decent shot would produce more dramatic results than my experiment above. I'm not even going to show the results! At best they looked like a well metered traditional photograph.
I don't know if it's the software, my understanding of it (most likely) or the camera setting (I was using AEB with +/-2 stops). I might try combining the same shots in photomatix if I have some time.
